Portnahaven lies at the southernmost tip of the Rhinns peninsula. It is a small village with a friendly bar serving drinks and food. The largest town on the island, Bowmore, is about 20 miles away and has a mix of shops and a supermarket.
When you arrive in Islay, take the A847 road to Portnahaven. Once you’re in the village, turn left at the head of the bay and follow the road keeping the sea and cottages on your right hand side. The Bay is near the end of the row of cottages. There is a sign on the fence at the parking area. If you end up in front of the lighthouse, you’ve come too far!
Please plan and book your travel well in advance as crossings can get very busy.

You can book a hire car in advance and arrange to have this left at the airport or ferry.
Buses/Islay
There’s a bus service on Islay operated by Islay Coaches, which connects all the major towns. The bus timetables can be viewed at www.argyll-bute.gov.uk
